Alex Love
Alex’s presentation had images, which showed his design
well. He had a good handmade model. His work was based around the ritual of
longboarding along the waterfront. He focused his work on the idea of the water
reflection which linked into his final design which had water in it.
Alex talked about his design having in door outdoor flow. He
achieved this with the viewing wall/door and the use of the same natural material,
beech timber, on the floor inside and outside. His presentation gave us a good
understanding of his final design.
Emma Kinsella
Emma’s design was interesting and unique. It was effective
having the glass tube in the middle of the room. I liked how the cylinder was
open at the top and let leaves and stuff fall in and turn into compost. There
is a removable grate in the bottom of the cylinder so the compost can be
removed. This shows good practical thinking about the design.
Emma had good artist model research. She had a good
CryEngine model which displayed her room effectively. She had well considered
lighting. I think it would be interesting to see what the space would be like
if it was used as a normal house room rather than a gallery space within a
house.
Janoo Patel
I was Janoo’s client. The homely ritual she had was mountain
biking. I really liked her final design. I liked the use of natural materials
in the room, especially the grass. I
thought it was interesting how Janoo used mountain bike spokes to inspire her
design. The room had lots of dynamic shapes, which looked really effective. The
room has indoors/outdoors flow which I really liked. The glass house storage
space before entering the room connects well with the main room. Janoo had good
images which showed off her design effectively.
Xavier Ellah
I liked how Xavier’s room only had the one desk in it so
that the main focus of the room was on the slats that move. The moving slats were an interesting idea. The design was
simple and effective. The video made in CryEngine was really effective to show
his room design. Placing a desk in the room worked well as it strongly linked
the design back to the original act of writing lists. His aesthetics gesture
video was an interesting response to his clients ritual – notetaking. The
digital collages were an effective way to display his elevations and sectional
views.
